Like every other argument of something being good or bad, Red Wine too has its share of division. There are people who advocate the consumption of Red Wine while stating its health benefits. There are also people who warn others to stay away from it. This article is an attempt to give you a fresh perspective about Red Wine.

The French Paradox

Red Wine follows the French paradox. A theory which says that the French have low rates of heart disease despite consuming good amounts of saturated fats and cholesterol, substances which are predominantly present in Red Wine. 

The Major Health Benefits

Apart from these, Red Wine is made of grapes which are a rich source of antioxidants like resveratrol and proanthocyanidins that are believed to prevent heart diseases and cancer. 

There are studies that show that consuming around 2 glasses of dealcoholized Red Wine was responsible for lowering the risk of stroke among men, and controlling the blood pressure. 

Other Health Benefits

Cancer:

Moderate consumption of Red Wine can help you reduce the risk of a few cancers including colon cancer, prostate cancer and ovarian cancer.

Dementia and Alzheimer’s

: People drinking Red Wine in moderate amounts were less prone to dementia and Alzheimer’s in their old age as compared to their other counterparts

Insulin resistance and diabetes

: Moderated amounts of consumption will also help you increase your affinity towards insulin and hence, reduce the chances of type 2 diabetes. 

Depression:

Red wine reduces the risk of depression. Yes, that happens. Red Wine can actually help you deal with mental stress and depression. Thanks to all the endorphins it helps you release. 

Bone Density and immune System

Strong bones, resistance to different sets of viruses and various infections are some more benefits that moderate wine consumption has to offer to you. You might not see sudden changes, or think of using it as a tonic, but it might be a good mixture with your regular vitamin intake.

There is a flip side to every story. Red Wine is no different.

  • Alcohol dependency

    : To much consumption might make you an addict. And because it contains alcohol, you might even expose yourself to other alcoholic substances which do more harm than good.

  • Weight gain

    : Yes, it has sugar, and other saturated fats. It is said to be more influential in weight gain as compared to beer. 

Conclusion

There is no harm in being a wine connoisseur. What you need to be careful about, is your capacity and how your body reacts to the substance. If you know your indulgences, know your body too.
