Ankle Sprain

A sprained ankle is an injury that occurs when you roll, twist or turn your ankle in an awkward way. Perform the first aid tips given below to stabilize the person, before the medical help arrives.

First Aid 

  • Bring the swelling in control. 

Go for RICE:

R- rest the ankle

I-  ice the ankle  (20-30 min every 2-3 hrs for first 2 days)

C-compress ( wrap the ankle lightly with an elastic bandage or brace)

E- elevate the ankle (first 48 hrs) bit higher than heart while lying down

Seek medical help, if:

  • pain, bruising, or swelling persists

  • ankle looks deformed , seems dislocated

  • Inability to put any weight on the ankle.
